Latest Happenings at PCS

Welcome to PCS-PTO.org!

Pomfret Community School PTO…. We’re all about COMMUNITY!

It’s nearly Spring!  And there’s so much going on at PCS and in the PTO!

Join us on Thursday, March 11th for a night full of family fun on Reading Night.  Get your groove on with Dancin’ with Hoops, every Tuesday night in March.  Indulge your sweet tooth with our back-by-popular-demand Gertrude Hawke chocolate sale, and help us raise the last few dollars needed to support the successful Minds Alive! enrichment programming.

And, of course, we’d love to see you at our March meeting on Tuesday, the 9th at 7pm in the PCS Library!  We’re already gearing up for next year, and with your help, we’ll make it an even more successful one for PCS kids, teachers and families!

We are thrilled with what our PCS families and friends have helped us to achieve for PCS.  Take a look at the Minds Alive! programming that your generosity has brought to the PCS community this year!  Thanks to you, every child at PCS has benefited!

As always, if you have any questions or ideas to share, please feel free to contact the PTO on-line by clicking here. We’d love to hear from you!

Where Does All the Money Go?

We’re thrilled to tell you!

We are so excited about how our Minds Alive! enrichment programs have shaped-up for this school year!

  • We’ve already hosted 4 Master Teaching Artists who have presented curriculum-inspired programs that benefit every child at PCS… and we’ve got 3 more coming up!
  • We’re proud to support PCS’s visit to Mexico during Cultural Arts Week, both with an Artist-In-Residence and with 3 performances and school-wide workshops by an authentic Mexican Mariachi band!
  • We’re super-excited about our Teacher Grants this year.  Each brings a hands-on, curriculum-driven, teacher-selected workshop and additional curriculum-enhancing classroom materials to every grade and special subject at PCS!
For a more detailed look at the entire Minds Alive! series of enrichment programs, please click here.  And while you’re at it, give yourself a huge pat on the back for helping to make all of these programs possible for our kids and teachers!

MInds Alive!: What’s Coming Up?

Next up in the Minds Alive! Series of Enrichment Programs….

April 1, 2010:  David Zucker’s Poetry in Motion

An exhilarating one man tour de force that brings poetry to life.  An old steamer trunk brimming with props, costumes, masks and puppets introduces an irresistible cast of characters drawn from the worlds best poems for children.  David Zucker vividly brings to life the best of English language poetic literature. This participatory program recreates the fine tradition of spoken verse with the poems of such authors as A.A. Milne, Lewis Carroll, Langston Hughes, James Whitcomb Riley, and many more.
