PCS Community Events Committee

This is an umbrella committee covering virtually all of the FUN student and family-related PTO sponsored events.  In other words, THIS is where all the action is!  It takes many volunteers to make these fun events happen!  We’d love your help!

  • Family Events
Every year, the PTO hosts a myriad of events with the singular goal of bringing the school community closer together.  Whether it’s information or plain old family FUN you’re after, we’ve got some great options for you!  Volunteer to help out, or bring your family, and join us for a good time!
  • School Events
These events take place in school and are especially for students.
  • Welcoming Events
It’s hard to be new!  Not only for our students, but for their families, too!  The Welcoming Committee lives up to its name by welcoming each and every new PCS family as they enter our school.  We want each family to feel at home in our unique PCS community!  We sponsor several events to make the transition easier for everyone!

If you’d like to find out more about this committee and related volunteer opportunities, please contact the PCS Community Events Committee Chair.

Family Events

Family Bingo Night

Bingo night is a very popular family activity with fun for every age group! Families come together, play a few rounds of bingo, compete for lots of great prizes, and enjoy each other’s company. We hold several Bingo Nights per year, often in December and February.

Family Game Night

Looking for something special to do during TV Turn-Off Week?  Join the PCS PTO during the month of May at Family Game Night!  This is a wonderful, social, night-out focused on fun and community for the whole family!  Each family bands together to compete with other families… in perennial favorites ranging from Candy Land to Pictionary, and everything in between!  Refreshments provided.

Halloween Parties

Families of children in grades PK-3 enjoy a ghoulishly good time trick-or-treating on the Haunted Candy Trail, playing games in the gym, and crafting in the cafeteria!  Don’t worry!  There are always lots of treats for the whole family!

For students in grades 4-6, it’s off to the local corn maze for a night of community fun followed by cider and donuts!

7th and 8th graders dance the night away at the Halloween Bash in the cafeteria.  It is a frightfully good time!

Middle School Game Night

For the middle school only, this fun filled night is held at the Pomfret School Field House.  Kids in grades 6-8 gather to socialize and beat the winter “blahs” while enjoying indoor sports including basketball, soccer, ping pong, floor hockey, etc.  Join us!

Reading Night

Usually held around Dr. Seuss’s birthday, in February or March, Reading night is one night when the younger grades (PK-4) dress in pajamas and bring their families for special story time with “guest” and “celebrity” readers!  Based on the ideas of the National Education Association, this event ensures that kids find out just how fun reading can be!

School Events

School Store

Every Friday morning, the cafeteria is host to the PTO-sponsored School Store where students can purchase school supplies and fun trinkets.

PCS Dad Day

Watch out PCS!  DAD is in the house!  This special day is full of our favorite men: Dads!  From holding open the doors, to serving lunch in the cafeteria, to reading stories in class, our PCS Dads are helping out everywhere!

Picture Day

Once a year in October, PCS hosts a photo shoot for every PCS student.  This event is run entirely by the PTO, from organizing the classrooms to tidying up hairdos!  We need many volunteers to shepherd all those children to and from the cameras in an orderly fashion, and keep track of who’s who in each photo!

Holiday Shop

At the beginning of December, the PTO hosts an optional holiday shop for children who wish to purchase gifts for family members.  Interested children browse a collection of inexpensively priced items, and are thrilled to be able to make their own choices!

TV Turn Off Week

Turn your TV off, and open your mind!  This PTO-sponsored week is full of fun and surprises!  Children of families who participate by turning off the TV for one week straight in May are entered into raffles for great prizes!  Discover the magic of reading, family conversation, and creative activities!  And make sure to join us for Family Game Night!

Welcoming Events

Welcome to PCS Signs

Early in the morning the week before the first day of school,  the PTO elves sneak out into the darkness to leave a special, smiling welcome sign on the lawn of every new student!

Welcome Packets

The PTO creates packets of pertinent information for every new PCS family.  This information ranges from the “official” (phone numbers and policies) to the “practical” (How will my child get to school?)  We answer all of the questions that WE had when we were new parents!

New Family Buddies

For any questions NOT answered in our Welcome Packets, every new family will be given a PCS veteran “Buddy Family” to help find the answers and extend a welcoming hand.

Kindergarten Ice Cream Social

The week before school begins, the Kindergarten teachers invite each Kindergarten child to meet their teacher and classmates, tour their classroom and enjoy an ice cream social sponsored by the PCS PTO.  While the children meet their classmates, parents also have the chance to meet one another and receive information and ask any questions they may have about how the school works.
